It has been almost four weeks since we left NY with Marley, our GSP, and I want to give you an update.  First, she is a sweetie that we love very much.  Her disposition is outstanding and she is one fast learner.  The house training has been going very well.  The first two nights she had accidents in her kennel (as expected) and that was it.  We don’t give her free run of the house, but she has full freedom in the kitchen and morning room (when we are home) and has not had any accidents since the first week.  We’re halfway through puppy kindergarten, and even though she is one of the youngest pups in the class, she has picked up the commands very quickly. She is also very calm in stressful places; such as Lowe’s Garden Center, strip malls, or going on our boat for a ride in the Potomac River or the Chesapeake Bay.  We live in Labrador Retriever country, so when people see Marley, they comment on how beautiful her markings are and how calm she is around people.  Next question is “What type of dog is she?” and “Where did you get her?”  I’ve also had several dog breeders and people that show dogs tell me she has the disposition, temperament, and markings of a show dog and I should show her.  I’m not sure if we’ll go that route, but I won’t rule it out either. You were right Frank regarding Jenna’s litter.  Marley has been the perfect puppy for us and she is a great addition to our family.  Attached are a few photos of Marley.  I’ll send you another update in a month or so. Thanks again for picking out Marley for us to join our family. Sincerely....John and Jane     (Great Mills, Maryland)

As promised, I wanted to pass along a few pictures of Titus.  He is 16 weeks now and doing great.  He absolutely loves running, hiking and swimming upstate. We try to get up there as much as possible.  Of course he still has a lot to learn but overall we could not be happier with him.  It is so fun to see him learn and try new things....Kristina and Owen (New York, NY)

Thought you'd like to see what a beauty Dory's grown into. Here, in
our back yard, she is looking for the local flock of turkeys that has
been making the rounds of the neighborhood. She's a great family dog
and we're very happy with her. Thank you!...Dory S. & Family (West Sand Lake, NY)

I know you deal with many people in relation to your dogs and puppies, but, I hope you might remember my husband, Dennis and I. We contacted you and came to see your beautiful kennels this past fall looking for a german shorthaired pointer puppy. We had lost our wonderful friend and companion, Cozmo, (german shorthaired pointer - our third, 13 years old) a short time prior to that.

We brought our puppy home and searched for just the right name for him. He became immediately attached to Dennis (rarely leaving his side) and Dennis kept calling him his "buddy" so that is who he became. Buddy is beautiful and very loving. Everywhere we go, people will first say how beautiful he is and then ask what kind of dog he is. He has grown like a little weed and now, at a little over 6 months, weighs in at the vets at 50 pounds. We have kept him on the Royal Canin Dog food and he is doing beautifully. He has a TON of energy. Dennis walks him every day - and he loves the outdoors. He is great with people and other dogs. He wants desperately to play with our cat, but, she is pretty reserved and they are still trying to find common ground. Buddy would like to chew on her and she would rather he didn't. He tries to offer her his toys, but, she doesn't know how to play ball with him or fetch.

I am attaching some pictures that Dennis took and I hope you enjoy seeing how Buddy is growing. If any of the pictures catch your eye, please feel free to use them as you see fit. There is one picture of Buddy and a collie friend, Timmy. The others are as he has grown. The most recent picture is where he is standing by the tree - Dennis took that this week. We hope you enjoy them.

Buddy is extremely intelligent (the brightest we have had). He knows how to open doors, likes to bring a piece of clothing to me when we are doing laundry, tries to help make the bed. Playing ball is his favorite indoor game. He would make a great soccer player as he stops the ball with his feet. We are still working on some manners - he will sit nicely and comes to Dennis beautiful when he is off leash walking in a field. He is potty trained and never makes mistakes these days. We are working on not jumping on people and not putting paws on the kitchen counters. He does not get human food, but, thinks it still smells wonderful.

I hope you've done well over the winter. Many people ask who bred such a beautiful dog - we always tell them where he came from.

Best always,

Dena, Dennis and Buddy (Pulaski, NY)

Here are 2 pictures of "Cooper".  Michael made the round trip to bring him home that Thursday without a hitch.  Cooper is probably the most calm, loving, sociable, and when he wants to be, intelligent dog we've encountered (I've owned several different species along the way).   When we asked for a puppy that would acclimate quickly to our plethora of pets & family we didn't think it was possible to determine at "puppy" age their personalities, but this one is right on target.  He is quick to learn and enjoys both people and other dogs (especially our neighbor).  He's growing at a good clip and his markings are getting more pronounced.  We are stopped very often while walking him, as not many people own these type of dogs down here in south Florida.  Everyone comments how beautiful he is. He has finally gotten used to our nasty thick grass and the very hot concrete/asphalt .  Now if we can only get him to stop chasing our cats! I'll send more pictures as he grows as I am sure he will be more handsome as he grows....Peppi & Michael (Sunrise, South Florida)

UPDATE

Cooper's birthday present was a real hit! Cassie arrived just in time to celebrate. Cooper has not been able to get enough of her and frequently has to be reminded she is just a baby. He tries to play tug of war, "Indian giver" with his toys, and has agreed to share a portion of his pillow with her. Although she has only been with us for a week now, she is beginning to go to the door to let us know she's "gotta go". We have a cow bell that Cooper used to ring when he wanted us to hurry up and she's rang it once or twice. She's quite different than he, as she is a very confident dog (except for the 1st day). She walks proudly with her tail straight up and is calm around other dogs and people. Cooper is very excitable and loves to jump. We are hoping that she will wear off on him as well as drain some of his enormous amount of energy! On the flip side maybe his loving nature and funny antics will l cross over to her. When we get ice from the fridge, Cooper comes, as well as Cassie (even if she's in a deep sleep). We give him a cube and she sits under him waiting for the pieces to fall. It's a hoot!
We receive nothing but compliments from everyone we encounter. Cooper is a beautiful dog and we are sure Cassie will be the same. We'll keep you up to date with pictures and "growing" progress of the two. Until then, thanks again for the wonderful companions!....Peppi & Michael (Sunrise, South Florida)

UPDATE

We were hoping to have you update our spot on your web site with our "favorite" GSP' for all to see. I was wondering if you got a chance but in any event I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are managing with all the winter storms you are having. I love the seasons, but it is weather such as yours that makes me happy I'm not in New York now! Take care and I've added another picture of our grandson and Cassie.

They are the best dogs ever, and we love them so much.  We knew from the moment we arrived at South Side and saw how well it was maintained, and how healthy all the dogs were, that we had found the right place.  As you probably know, we came to you for a Vizsla, but when we saw the German Shorthaired Pointers we fell in love with them too and had to have one.  We came very close to getting a Weimaraner too!  But three puppies at once...  Maggie and Gordon are best friends.  They play with each other all the time.  Great to watch them playing tug of war with the same toy, one getting the toy and bringing it to the other so that they can play.  Wonderful, healthy, happy dogs who have brought so much to our daily family life!  Thank you....Steve K. (Bedford, NY)

Dear Frank, Hello, I just wanted to give you an update on "Jack"  the 10 month. old GSP formerly known as Trevor.  We adopted him from you about three weeks ago, as you know.  We couldn't ask for a better dog - he fit right in with the family as soon as we brought him home.  Everybody comments on what a beautiful dog he is.  He is very intelligent and learns things quickly, he listens very well (most of the time!), and is great with all the family, neighborhood kids, dogs etc.  He loves cats but they are not real fond of him!  The kids walk him each day, and take him to the ball field to run each day as well, then I take him jogging with me each evening, so he is getting plenty of exercise - and loving every minute of it!  I have also started some field training with him as well.  We have been working with some Pheasant dummies, he learned to retrieve perfectly to hand in about 2 days, and he has a great nose, he always finds the dummy quickly no matter where I hide it. On behalf of my family, I would just like to thank you Frank for keeping your word, and holding on to Jack for us until we returned from vacation, as you promised you would.  I know you probably could have gotten more money for him, and I was impressed by the fact that you were more concerned with finding Jack a good home. We will send pictures soon.  Thanks again Frank for everything - we'll keep you posted....Allen & Jill M. & Kids

I felt an obligation to write this letter to sincerely thank Frank, Lisa and the entire staff of South Side Dogs. At the time of this letter our German shorthaired pointer, “Kava” is four months old. Frank promised that he would select the perfect puppy to match our family’s lifestyle and I’m pleased to say that he far exceeding our expectations. Kava is the most handsome Shorthair that you have ever seen. He has the proudest walk and perfect body lines. Every time we take him for a walk or to the pet store people ogle over him. His solid black color and distinct body draw attention every where we go. Our veterinarian and his staff call Kava their “Black Beauty”.
Kava has never littered indoors and from the first week we had him, he has let us know when he needs to go outside. He is a happy and energetic puppy and he has a great personality that you just fall in love with. He is extremely bright and eager to learn and please us. I belong to a sportsmen’s club in Connecticut, I started to field train Kava at 9 weeks old and he has progressed into an extremely good sporting dog already. He has a great nose and loves to work in the field. He holds point without any check cords or other restraints. Many other members of my club asked to accompany me during our training exercise to witness the 16 week old pup working birds like an old seasoned veteran. Kava has become a local legend already. My family and I could not be happier with our choice to purchase a puppy from the fine folks at South Side Dogs. Thank you so much for doing what you do.

It has been 8 weeks since we picked up "Tazo" our puppy. All I can say is that it's a pleasure having our new family member. He's ready to please and extremely smart. He was house broken in 9 days, WOW! I feel as if you read my mind. You gave me a dog with every thing I was looking for, good looks, calm and great personality. Thank you so much. I live in North Jersey the drive to you was 3 hrs long. To be honest with you, I would be willing to drive 30 hrs for the dog I received from South Side Dogs. Your establishment was so clean and everyone was very nice and helpful.
Thank you again! Jake P. (Ringwood, N.J.)

We would like to thank you so very much for such a wonderful experience with all of you and the "new addition to our family", Colby (the puppy)! He is such a pleasure. We had him completely house trained after 4 days in his new home. Not only is he adorable, but very smart! He already knows how to sit, and give us his paw, and loves his treats! We can't stop hugging and kissing him! His personality is exceptional. He's very affectionate, and eager to please. Everything you said he would be, he is, and more! He's been to the vet once since he's with us, and the vet couldn't believe what a beautiful pup he is, healthy, and said he had to come from an exceptional breeder. He is so right! You are the best, and we can't thank you enough for our new family member. We are considering a playmate for him he's so great! Thank you all so much! You are terrific!....Dale, Jesse, Nicolas and Colby S. (Elmsford, NY)

Well, the above family did decide to give Colby a playmate and this is what they wrote to us:

Thinking about all of you @ SSD, and thanking you for our 2 pups who are enjoying life at the San Marco Household!!!! Enjoy the picture! Thanks again!

Just an update on Southside Jake. He is the most amazing dog we have ever had. He is so smart (and sometimes stubborn!). He has a great disposition, when you talk to him he answers with a groan as if he is talking back to you. He is 20 weeks old and weighs 34 lbs. You were right, the Royal Canin food is the best. As you can see in the attached pictures, he is a beautiful specimen! We thank you for Jake everyday and could not be any happier with him. He is a wonderful addition to our family. Everywhere we go people stop and play with Jake and ask where we got him and of course we tell them about you and Southside Dogs. Hope all is well and I will update you on Jake frequently....Karin & Tim (Hillsdale, NY)

Here is a South Side Jake update! Its been a long time! Jake is now almost a 1 1/2 years old! He is a wonderful companion. Smart, sometimes too smart for his own good. I have attached a few pics so that you can see how he has grown into a beautiful and loving companion. He is our pride and joy!....Karin & Tim (Hillsdale, NY)

Hi Frank, It's been about a year and a half since we picked up our GSP pup, Griffin, (11/13/06 litter) and we wanted to let you know that he's doing well! We adore him. We wanted a pointer, in part, to keep us active, and he sure does. We love that we can rollerblade with him, and he runs right along side our bikes. We didn't expect him to be such a swimmer, but of the 4 or so hours we were on the lake yesterday, he swam for about 3 of them! He loves the boat and loves the water, but most of all he loves to cuddle. We love that he's able to go where we go, and at the end of the day he's mush with us on the couch. Griffin was an early arrival for us because we were anticipating the April litter that year, but we can't imagine a more perfect pup for us. Thanks for thinking of us for him!....Jaime and Randy (Malta, NY)

Just wanted to take a moment and Thank You all for bringing our new child into our lives. His name is Reilly, a German Shorthair pointer. He was born on April 9th, 2009 and accepted into our family in the beginning of June. He is now almost 9 months old, and is everything that Frank and his co-workers stated. He is a beautiful animal, very intelligent, full of energy and has passed all of our Vet’s check-ups with flying colors. The real test is that I wanted to wait and see how he developed. Bone structure, so far is fabulous, and he is still growing. Ears are perfect, nice and long as they should be. Character, is exactly and maybe slightly exceeding our expectations. Awareness, Reilly could be a family dog as well as a good hunter, for us he is family. Personality, Frank, you labeled him a “Brat” and that was right on and always looking to get into trouble like a little boy. He is worth every bit of this. Reilly carries himself beautifully and has a fabulous gait. My wife and I have always had purebreds; we have been very attached to each and every one of them. They say mutts are healthier, but I never see the personality or character like that of a well bred canine, as long as you pick the breed that fits your lifestyle.Late March 2009, we had to put down our Weimaraner “Oliver” due to cancer “Lymphoma”, he was not purchased at South Side. It was a sad day; our children are grown, and walking into an empty house after that just outright sucked. So onward we went, I checked breeders online from coast to coast and border to border. After speaking with Frank on the phone, Southside was on our Top-5 list. From there I dug a little deeper and eventually decided to give South Side a visit to see if this was the place that our next puppy would come from. We were pleasantly surprised, the mountain setting was great, and the facility was fabulous, clean, grounds were immaculately manicured. Frank and his people were very friendly and answered all my questions professionally. All documentation on our new pup was up to date, and great advice was passed on upon the day of delivery of Reilly to us. There were no surprises or demands out of the ordinary that you could get from other breeders. In the near future my wife and I plan to get another Weimie as well. Frank had two fabulous looking studs in the kennel, of which I would love to have a puppy from. If not this year, definitely next year we will again make the 3.5 hours trek to New York State. I have been so pleased with Frank, his people and the new addition to our family, that upon request he may give our unlisted home number out as a reference to interested parties. Happy New Year to All, and Frank, I apologize for the latency of this testimonial, but I did want to evaluate Reilly thoroughly before sending. Here are a few pictures of Reilly, enjoy.Your Friends....Kim & Karen

My wife and I purchased a gsp puppy from you 31\2 years ago. Reese is an amazing dog, I own a large hunting preserve in upstate NY and Reese is a perfect fit. He is an outstanding hunting dog, and a great companion. My clients are always amazed at his skills and raw hunting talent. He will go for hours non stop and when were finished he's ready for more. We began taking him to AKC hunt tests 2 years ago, and he literally hunts circles around the other dogs. He constantly has a crowd of people stopping by to admire him, these events usually have people who judge dog shows attending, our last hunt test two of them told us he is the most perfectly put together shorthair they have ever seen. He is absolutely the perfect dog, great in the field, great in the house, great with kids and great with other animals One of my guides just lost his GSP to old age and is looking for another, he is wondering if Reese's parents are still breeding, I believe his mother is Bosslady and father Vom Riverwoods Pop. Please let me know and i will have him contact you. I attached a picture of Reese at his last hunt test....Brian

We just wanted to send you a recent picture of Cooper and Cassie.  It's hard to believe that they both were small puppies when we got them.  We always get many compliments whether we are walking them or at the dog park.  They are quite a pair and have become very attached.  It was the best decision to add Cassie to our family and we realize Cooper (as well as Michael & I) (are) is happier.  They manage to keep each other occupied, constantly playing and when exhausted they sleep next to each other. Cooper is a mild, sweet, and very sensitive dog while Cassie's nickname is "kevlar". She doesn't let anything or any dog get in her way. She is always happy (her tail is always wagging) and very affectionate.  They both have those qualities that you'd want in your "best friend".  Thank you again for our beautiful dogs!....Michael & Peppi (Sunrise, Florida)

I wanted to show you the most recent pictures of Gunnar. He is our GSP that we purchased from you back in the winter of '07. He is 2 1/2 now. Gunnar is spoiled beyond belief but in a good way. We love him more than any person can love a dog and in return he showers us with just as much love. He goes to work everyday with my husband to the office. Gunnar truly is one of the family members. He has to be by far the sweetest dog I have ever encountered! Gunnar is a superstar wherever we go. He gets a lot of looks from people. I absolutely love the black color on him! I want another GSP in the worst way but my husband doesn't want to take 2 dogs to the office. So as soon as we get our own office building we will be getting another pup.... you can count on that. These pictures are from the Outer Banks, NC. We recently vacationed there just for Gunnar! He had a blast. He loves to swim but I think he prefers lakes to oceans. He still got wet though. He loved the pool too! So I just wanted to say "thank you" for all the wonderful work you do and "thank you" for providing us with this wonderful animal Thanks Again....Beth (Syracuse, NY)
